The Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Haikou officially opened in the Hainan capital city on Oct 10, marking the first foreign consulate general that has been established in the island province since the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Shen Xiaoming, governor of Hainan, and Khek Cai Mealy Sysoda, Cambodian Ambassador to China, attended the launch ceremony.
Shen extended his congratulations to the opening of the consulate general and lauded it as a significant achievement in implementing the consensus of the leaders of China and Cambodia. He noted that Hainan is promoting the construction of its pilot free trade zone and pilot free trade port, which along with the establishment of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Haikou will create a greater space for cooperation between the two countries.
While addressing attendees, the Cambodia ambassador said that the newly-established consulate general will further boost development in tourism, culture, investment, and trade between China and Cambodia.
The consular jurisdiction of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Haikou covers the entire province of Hainan. It issues temporary travel documents and visas, extends passports, as well as provides consular assistance to Cambodians.
