Some 20 researchers, technicians, and government employees from Mekong River countries including Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos took part in a special training session in Hainan on Oct 11 to learn about tropic crop products processing and packaging.
The Mekong River, also known as the Lancang River in China, is a vital waterway for cross-border shipping among China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The six countries launched a cooperation mechanism in March 2016 in Sanya, which includes providing trainings by China to 5,000 people from Mekong River countries in three years.
Mekong River countries boast rich tropical agricultural resources, superior agricultural production climate, as well as large varieties and quantities of tropical agricultural products. However, there is still room for improvement in bolstering their agricultural industrial chain and the processing of agricultural products. The added value of agricultural products in these countries has yet to be fully tapped.
This training mainly focused on offering classes and on-the-spot inspection for the trainees to better learn about tropical products processing, as well as packaging technologies and equipment.
