The offshore duty-free sales amount on Hainan Island has reached a new height.
According to Haikou Customs on October 22, in the first three quarters of 2019, under the influence of the fifth adjustment of Hainan's offshore duty-free policy, the duty-free shops in the island continued to maintain a rapid development momentum. In the first three quarters, the Customs has supervised 12.76 million pieces of duty-free goods, an increase of 29.2% year-on-year; the number of shoppers was 2.68 million, an increase of 29.7%; the sales amount reached 9.26 billion yuan, an increase of 28.4%.

From December 28, 2018, passengers departing from the island by ship also can enjoy the duty-free policy, which marked that the policy has covered the three main ways to leave Hainan by air, ship and train.
On January 19, 2019, having passed through the inspection of the Customs, two duty-free shops in Haikou and Qionghai were officially opened for operation. With the more balanced layouts, the shops can provide more convenience to the offshore tourists.

In the first three quarters of this year, the Customs has supervised the duty-free goods in the related shops at Sanya Haitang Bay, Haikou Meilan Airport, Haikou Riyue Plaza and Boao Dongyu Island, involving the sales amount of 7.05 billion yuan, 1.62 billion yuan, 540 million yuan and 0.5 billion yuan respectively.
